We just got back from Alaska and had a great time and the most amazing weather. It was sunny every day but one and the temperature was perfect. Alaskans had suffered through a long, cold spring like we had here in Minnesota, so a lot of the trails were not cleaned up after the winter and snow was still on the ground so we did change up our itinerary a bit. It is still a little slow up there with the salmon not running and the cooler temperatures but that left plenty of lodging and campgrounds open for non-planners like us! Here are a few of my favorites from the trip.
Early morning driving along the Homer Spit.
I am so intrigued by fishermen who spend months on the ocean. I don’t know how they do it! I can’t even imagine the seasickness, cold and stormy seas that they are used to. We had a chat with a couple fishermen who were in preparing to go out for their next catch and it’s just like a whole other world to me.
In just a couple of weeks the Kenai River will be filled with salmon and fishermen. I’m glad I got to enjoy it quietly!
The last ‘touristy’ stop on the trip, Crow Creek Mine, where you can still grab a pan and head down and search for gold.
